DIRECTOR OF THE NATIONAL HISTORICAL MUSEUM OF THE KYRGYZ REPUBLIC TOOK PART IN THE II INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE IN ST. PETERSBURG

The Director of the National Historical Museum of the Kyrgyz Republic, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, Zhyldyz Kemelovna Bakashova, is participating in the 2nd International High-Level Conference within the framework of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages titled “The World Treasure of Native Languages: Protect and Cherish. Context, Policy, and Practice of Indigenous Language Preservation,” which will take place from June 30 to July 2, 2024, in St. Petersburg.

The conference will provide opportunities for further development of international cooperation in the field of language preservation and promotion of multilingualism, and will allow the confirmation and strengthening of issues related to the formation and implementation of the international agenda in the linguistic field.

About 150 leading experts in the fields of culture, education, social and humanitarian sciences, communication, and information, directors of national museums, archives, representatives of intergovernmental, international, regional, and national non-governmental organizations, governance bodies, civil society institutions, and the private sector from over 40 countries will participate in the conference. These countries represent various geographic regions of the world, including Brazil, India, Indonesia, Cameroon, China, Mexico, South Africa, and other African, Latin American, and Eurasian countries, including the CIS.

Zhyldyz Bakashova delivered a report titled “Trends and Problems of Preserving Cultural and Linguistic Diversity in Kyrgyzstan.” In her presentation, she highlighted that Kyrgyzstan is a place where East and West converge, a crossroads of languages and cultures. The country is currently home to people of over 80 nationalities. One of the key components of progress in the country is the presence of a harmonious linguistic community. The native languages of the peoples of Kyrgyzstan are important not only for their speakers but also for all citizens of the republic, regardless of nationality, as an inexhaustible source of inspiration, equal opportunity, and brotherly mutual understanding.
